how about a little mixtape?

Soooo.... it is starting to get a little chilly where you are? It is here! There has been crazy fog, rain drizzles- we finally broke down and turned the heat on for the first time this week. Our pumpkins are carved... it all so very fallish right now. 

I have been working my fingers to death with the crochet hook...and listening to some very pretty tunes, if I do say so myself. These songs are on the quiet side, a tad haunting- perfect for the weather outside right now. I hope you enjoy!

I finally decided that life will always be in an upheaval of some kind, best thing is to just grab that upheaval by the balls and drag it to where you want it to be. I registered for nursing school. I'm excited and calm all at the same time- this is waay overdue.  This dahlia bud has been balled up pretty right for a week and a half now... this morning it started slowly opening up... and it just seemed like the universe was whispering something to me that I couldn't quite hear, but definitely understood.

I might say this every time, but I really do think this is one ofmy favorite mixes I've made! It's on repeat anytime I'm not watching Mad Men I have music playing. 

A few thoughts:

• our eyes do not deceive you, that is a new Florence + the Machine song... be still my heart!
• Ellie Goulding's cover of Jose Gonzalez's Heartbeats is therapy for the ears.
• I'm unsure where The Head + The Heart have been all my life.
• The same is true for Bombay Bicycle Club. 

Well, enjoy... I do recommend listening to the songs in the order they appear in the list up there- although I know iTunes can be a bit of a brat about letting that happen.

august break: the end.

Same spot, different days...Really in love with this dracaena plant I found over the weekend. It's hard to tell in these photos, but there are strips of pink on the outside edges of the leaves. I also got brave enough to put out one of the crocheted doilies I inherited from my great grandmother... I hear that she crocheted up until the day she died, arthritic hands and nearly blind. And then, there is my humble crocheting- must start on Miss G.'s birthday afghan!

where in the heck has the summer gone?! Sigh. Sorry I've neglected the blog for the past few days. Between birthdays and getting a new computer (tranferring all most of the old stuff to the new mac) it's been difficult to find the time to post. 

TOMORROW, I promise promise promise to have a shiny new mixtape up. The pains of being a perfectionist!

9 years ago...

My dearest Isabella,

Nine years ago today, you made me a mom.

And by all rights, you are my mini me. But you have taught me so much in your short time here. Your grace and strength inspire me everyday and more than you will ever be able to comprehend. You were and will always be the best late birthday present I will ever receive.

Please stop growing up so fast- it seems like just yesterday you were this little bundle of tears and baby laughs and everything in between, and I had no idea what to do with you- this little human life that was entrusted to me...but you showed me the way, and what you didn't, we figured out together. Nine years later, it's still true today. 
Happy Birthday!

august break: twenty four *birthday edition*

So, I turned 29 yesterday, here is the day in 6 pictures:

That last photo... be still my heart! I was really needing a new Mac... I was constantly getting the spinning beach ball of doom and agravation and there just wasn't enough room on there.

Also, I really did plan on putting a new mixtape up but I wasn't quite finished with it and completely ran out of hours in the day.

My massive begonia plant that I originally thought was a double impatiens....some turd stuck the wrong plant marker in the pot before I bought it! Now if only I knew what to do with it during winter... If I treat it right, I'm told it will come back in the spring...
